ROLE

The Project Director helps consolidate and continue to grow our business supporting operations – taking projects from inception to delivery, driving efficiencies and directing the business optimization to improve the overall organization performance and supporting the estimating team during the proposal stage.

The Project Director is responsible for the development and the oversight of major construction projects providing guidance and support to the project and construction management teams, as well as setting project strategy and success metrics. He/She manages all aspects of a construction project that includes excellent problem-solving competencies with the ability to foster close relationships with workers promoting team unity, resulting in the completion of successful and profitable projects while ensures that the Company delivers consistently across all projects, and that lessons learned and best practice from previous completed projects are implemented.

The Project Director serves as the principal liaison to the Clients senior Management and maintains regular and appropriate relations with their Representatives supporting Company's business development initiatives, vision, and strategy. He/She adheres to Company’s core values ensuring an inclusive workplace and operating in accordance with Company health and safety, environment, quality, efficiency standards and practices.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Project Director sets the objectives for each project disciplines to comply with the contract requirements and Company’s expectations in regard of health, safety, environment, and quality compliance. The Project Director responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Drives the implementation of Company’s core values at all levels and suggests any changes required to achieve them and is responsible for the continuous improvement
  • Provides clear and concise reporting of project status and areas of risk to the Executives, Senior Management and Clients.
  • Supports estimating team in the preparation and submission of Company qualifications and proposals to Clients, and identify new clients/projects (within programs or stand-alone single opportunities) to pursue.
  • Interacts with Company’s corporate discipline leads and the project construction leads in order to have the required resources (staff, workforce, equipment, subcontractors, and materials) available on time to comply with the contract requirements.
  • Identifies project objectives and requirements, stakeholders and other third-party engagements to comply and achieve with the executed contract and expectations.
  • Identifies the strategic and operational plans for each of the projects assigned and provides overall leadership and guidance to the Project Managers while implementing those plans.
  • Overviews the preparation of milestone project deliverables as required by Company’s internal process and contract requirements.
  • Support project staff to outline work plans and to assign duties, responsibilities, and scope of authority supporting recruitment or assignment of key project personnel.
  • Oversees the overall progress of the assigned projects through each phase.
  • Presents and reports on the progress and performance of projects providing overall financial oversight, and monitor of the construction progress and the budget over the entire life of the project.
  • Creates and drives an inclusive and positive culture and enable career progression.
  • Helps in building an engaged and resilient team of professionals communicating long term plans and upcoming opportunities to Project and Discipline Leads, providing guidance and mentoring to Managers and Leads to achieve project goals and objectives, and to maintain Company’s recognized industry leaderships.
  • Liaises with Project Managers, Construction Managers and Superintendents in the development of the project and the construction execution plans, monitors the overall progress and look-ahead of the project and approves the changes required to ensure effective and efficient utilization of all project resources within approved budget and schedule milestones.
  • Supervises that projects are built according to approved plans and supports the Project Manager to close-out each project in a timely manner.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with Clients, their representatives, project stakeholders and key partners (local and indigenous communities, critical subcontractors and vendors, etc.) to strengthen Company industry leadership and credibility.
  • Drives the innovation, proposes technology improvements to industry state-of-the-art (software and hardware, equipment, and tools, etc.), and suggests process changes.

 

Note: in addition to these duties personnel are required to carry out such other duties as may be reasonably required in order to support the objectives of the Company.

 

POSITION REQUIRMENTS

Qualifications

  • Engineering degree (Mechanical, Civil/Structural), or graduate of an applicable technical diploma program, and / or a combination of education and relevant experience.

Experience

  • Minimum of 15 years in an oil & gas construction project management or project supervision role or large-scale construction experience.
  • 5-8 years working experience in managerial role with a proven track record of successful project delivery. 
  • Availability to periodically travel to project sites. 

Skills and Knowledge

  • Understanding of the oil and gas pipeline & industrial construction industry and familiarity with relevant construction and safety codes, standards, and practices.
