Position: Facilities Engineer (Contract or Full Time)

This is a contract role with potential to full time for local candidates. The successful candidate may be provided accommodation during their tenure – minimum 3-month term if not residing in Montreal.

About the Role:

Our client is looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Facilities Engineer to join their team! Your primary responsibilities will include providing technical support during commissioning and start-up phases, as well as troubleshooting any process-related issues that arise. This role demands a proactive approach to process optimization and close collaboration with various teams to maintain and enhance plant performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Continuously oversee Polyethylene Fiber production processes and equipment performance. Analyze process data to detect trends, inefficiencies, and potential issues. Implement optimization strategies to enhance throughput, yield, and energy efficiency.
  • Assist operations and maintenance teams by troubleshooting and resolving process-related issues promptly to minimize downtime.
  • Develop and implement corrective measures for process deviations.
  • Identify opportunities for process enhancements and lead initiatives to improve plant performance. Implement best practices and innovative technologies to increase process reliability and efficiency.
  • Ensure all plant operations adhere to safety regulations and environmental standards. Participate in safety audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
  • Plan and execute plant modifications and upgrades using the Management of Change (MOC) process. Provide technical input and support during the design, construction, and commissioning phases.
  • Collect and analyze process data to evaluate plant performance. Prepare technical reports and presentations on process performance, improvements, and project updates. Maintain accurate records of process parameters, set points, and changes.
  • Conduct training sessions for operations and maintenance personnel on process operations and safety protocols. Develop and update training materials and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Work closely with operations, maintenance, and safety teams to ensure smooth and efficient plant operations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. An advanced degree or professional certification (e.g., Professional Engineer (PE) license) is preferred.
  • At least 5 years of experience in refinery or chemical industry operations, process engineering, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in process optimization and troubleshooting within a refinery, petrochemical, or chemical environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in process simulation and data analysis software (e.g., Aspen HYSYS, MATLAB).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong understanding of refinery or chemical processes, equipment, and safety standards.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • High level of attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Proactive and self-motivated with a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Strong leadership and teamwork abilities.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
